If you’re training on your own, this technique is a simple way to help build duration in hooflifting. The basic idea is that if your horse’s hoof is lifted, they get rewards in the wheelbarrow. With a bit of repetition, they soon understand this and start to WANT to keep their foot up so they get rewards for it.
It works for the fronts and the hinds, and I use it a lot for both hoof care and preparing them for others handling their feet, such as trimmers and farriers.
