Gymnastic Groundwork with Hannah – East Grinstead, UK

September 28, 2019 @ 10:00 am - September 29, 2019 @ 5:00 pm

Equine Centred is hosting Hannah Weston from Connection Training this September as she is coming down from Yorkshire to teach a 2 day course. This course is made up of 1 day of theory and one day practical. There are 6 rider spaces on the second day and spectator places also available. Connection Training specialises in teaching positive horse training that is practical, effective and builds the relationship between you and your horse. This course will be drawing on the use of positive reinforcement.

Day 1 – 28th Sept: Seminar on Gymnastic Groundwork and Riding This is a full day seminar with plenty of videos and time for questions. It covers: The Connection Training approach to make groundwork and body conditioning relaxing and fun for you and your horse.

In-hand work – starting from leading work and building to circles, body isolations and lateral movements such as shoulder-in, haunches-in and half pass. We look at how to break these exercises down and teach them simply and positively, even if it’s the first time for you and your horse! We also talk about what it means for the horse to be engaged in movement, what exactly to look for and how to begin to train it.

Lunging – building naturally out of the in-hand work on a circle, we’ll look at how to teach circle work in an easy and fun way, both at liberty and on a line. You can then use lunging to improve your horse’s movement and to build calmness, connection and balance in higher paces such as moving up to the trot and canter.

Polework and Obstacles – these exercises are fantastic for building body awareness and helping horses to connect with their feet. They are also useful for strengthening and conditioning your horse and are a great way to bring interest, fun and variety into your sessions.

Free Jumping – Building from lunging and polework, we’ll look at an overview of free jumping, how to begin it and the benefits to your horse.

Riding – Finally, we’ll look at some key principles when it comes to taking these exercises into the saddle, and how you can maintain your strong relaxation, connection and joy when riding.

This day is based inside with tea and coffee included.

Day 2 – 29th Sept: Lessons with spectator places.

6 individual lessons each of 1 hour each. We switch up the exercises and include plenty of breaks for the horse where we discuss the lessons, so it doesn’t overwhelm the horse but we get plenty covered. The lessons can be on the gymnastic groundwork and riding theme or people can work on whatever they like, such as overcoming a problem or working with a youngster etc. There will be plenty of time for spectator questions too.

Please contact Jenny ASAP to book a rider place as these are limited.

This day will be based outside on a field so please dress for outside weather (sun cream, hats, waterproofs etc).
