Equine Emotions and Calming Signals Seminar

You know that your horse has feelings and is highly expressive. In this seminar, you’ll learn the science behind the emotions and the practice of reading equine expressions.
By the end of the seminar, you will be more astute in spotting your horse’s emotional state, calming signals, displacement activities and stress signals. You will have great practical tools to help your horse to calm his stress before it rises to an unmanageable level. You will understand how to create the happier emotional states in training and lifestyle. Your horse training will break through the “glass-ceiling” and your bond will become even stronger, as your horse learns that you truly understand him.
On Saturday, Rachel Bedingfield of Connection Training will take you on a journey through the horse’s brain, exploring the emotional systems which modern neuroscience shows that all mammals share. Rachel has been studying the brain science of emotion for over five years. She explains the science clearly and easily and uses lots of film of feral and domestic horses to illustrate it. She then discusses how to use this understanding to improve your horse-training and to help your horse feel calm, happy and playful while learning.
On Sunday, Rachaël Draaisma, author of Language Signs and Calming Signals in Horses, gives you a detailed guide to interpret the physical appeasement signals that horses display in response to their environment. These calming signals are evident in the everyday communication between horses, but can go unnoticed by humans. Rachaël studied and filmed horses interacting with each other and people for over 4 years. From this detailed study, she has created a highly practical guide to help you gain insight into the “horse’s world”. She uses many pictures and videos which help you to develop your observation skills.
